CRPP Notification 17/2000

The candidates representing the legally constituted National League for Democracy who were freely elected in the 1990 multi-party democratic elections are themselves legally constituted Pyithu Hluttaw representatives. Even more so because they have been proclaimed as such by the military dictators. None other than a President of the Pyithu Hluttaw who is voted to that office by a majority of the House has the capacity to remove a Pyithu Hluttaw Representative from his position.

Dr. Hla Shein is one of those honorable individuals to whom the people of Ya-sauk (South Shan State) constituency entrusted the right to govern as is consistent with democratic principles in casting their votes wholeheartedly for him at the elections.

A large number of military training centers have been established in Ya-sauk township including Ba Htoo military town. Senior and junior commanders from a variety of military training units and the lackeys of the military dictators, the USDA membership (an organization that is irrelevant to politics) are working together in devious illegal ways to intimidate and coerce the people to obtain the resignation of this legally constituted Pyithu Hluttaw Representative Dr. Hla Shein.

Should Dr Hla Shein adamantly refuse to resign he will be framed. Evil designs are afoot to either discreetly or blatantly plant drugs, "Che" lottery papers and other illegal and prohibited articles on his premises to incriminate and get him criminally convicted. We vigorously warn and urge you not to adopt any of those tactics.

We have learned that NLD organisation committee members have had to resign out of fear and pressure and the foul threats and intimidation of the military commander of the region.

We vigorously denounce the actions of the military dictators.
