RESOLUTIONS PASSED ON THE 27 MAY 2000

THE COMMITTEE REPRESENTING THE PEOPLE'S PARLIAMENT
AND ITEMS FOR THE RECORD
ON THE OCCASSION OF THE 10th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MULTIPARTY GENERAL
ELECTIONS.


A.RESOLUTIONS

1.Resolved never to relinquish under any circumstances and for any reason whatsoever the results of the general elections which was achieved through the blood and sweat of thousands of our monks, fellow-citizens, students and people.

2.Firmly resolved that the Pyithu Hluttaw is a priority for the fulfillment of the desire of the people so that all the people of Myanmar including the ethnic national races can fully enjoy democracy and human rights.

3.Resolved that for as long as a Pyithu Hluttaw comprising parliamentarians elected by the people is not put in place, the Committee Representing the Peoples Parliament will not neglect but will effectively perform and carry out the duties and responsibilities of a parliament for the benefit of the people and the country.

4.Resolved firmly that a democratic country will only materialize when a Pyithu Hluttaw comprising the people's legally elected representatives is put in place and not by the military dictators who assert that democracy which is the ardent desire of the people will be achieved.

5.Resolved that we demand in strong terms the convening of a Pyithu Hluttaw which should have followed the 1990 multiparty general elections held under laws and regulations made by the military dictators be facilitated and that there is no other alternative .

6.Resolved that until and unless a correct and accurate follow through of the 1990 multi-party democratic elections is achieved, no other election under any shape or form will be acceptable.

7.Resolved firmly that a constitution that is the outcome of a national convention that does not comprise the genuine and real representatives of the people will not be accepted.

8.Resolved firmly that because a country's constitution is the country's principle legal document that should be framed in accordance with law requiring proper discussion. Only a Pyithu Hluttaw comprising the genuinely elected representatives of the people is competent to draw up a country's constitution. No other body or group of persons has the authority to do so.

9.Resolved that the problems facing the country today viz. political, racial unrest, education, social welfare etc. can only be equitably and properly solved when a Pyithu Hluttaw is put in place.

10.Resolved that as a member country of the United Nations and for the purpose of maintaining its reputation and integrity, we demand that our country comply with the United Nations Charter and abide by all the conventions and agreements of the United Nations and its associated organisations and bodies (International Labor Organisation, United Nations Human Rights Commission).

11.Resolved that we demand the immediate cessation of illegal arrests and incarceration of legally elected people's representatives and we strenuously condemn the senseless and unlawful activities against them.

12.Resolved that we condemn as loathsome and abominable the staging and orchestration of sham demonstrations in direct contravention of law to terminate the NLD and force the people by deceitful means to turn against their legally elected NLD parliamentarians.

13.Resolved that we demand the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners imprisoned since 1988.

14.Resolved that we emphatically demand the immediate and unconditional release of all Pyithu Hluttaw representatives and NLD organising committee members and ordinary members illegally captured and incarcerated since 1988 to date.

15.Resolved that we emphatically demand the immediate and unconditional release of Dr. U Saw Mra Aung, Naing Tun Thein, U Kyint Shin Htan and U Aye Thar Aung (CRPP Secretary 2 and Secretary of the Arakan League for Democracy).All these persons were actively involved in the CRPP, being leaders of three of the Nationalities Political Parties viz. The Arakan League for Democracy, Mon National Democratic Front and the Zomi National Congress.

16.Resolved that all political activists who are undergoing long jail sentences for their endeavors to restore democracy and human rights in the country and those incarcerated parliamentarians who are staging hunger strikes be specially honored.

17.Resolved that the physical and mental suffering and consequences of the illegal incarceration and imprisonment of chairmen, parliamentarians(including those who are staging hunger strikes),and members of the NLD will be the entire responsibility of the military dictators.

18.Resolved that we vehemently demand the immediate cessation of operations mounted against the Pyithu Hluttaw representatives, to disadvantage their families and relatives by blocking and destroying their means of earning a livelihood and advancement and to cause physical and mental distress. The immediate cessation of illegal abuses of power that is void of any human compassion whatsoever.

19.Resolved that the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC) now the State Peace And Development Council (SPDC) not being legitimate governments as per their own admission do not have the competency nor the authority to pass laws, regulations or orders without the sanction and approval of the Committee Representing the People's Parliament.

ADDITIONAL RESOLUTION

All representatives elected in the 27 May 1990 multiparty democratic
elections (except those who have passed away) remain as legal elected
members of the Pyithu Hluttaw until and unless their resignations have been accepted by the Speaker of the House.This is a reiterated resolution.
