PRESIDENT MARTENS SUPPORTS BURMA

16-02-2005 (European People's Party)

EPP President Wilfried Martens welcomed the declaration of the Luxembourg Presidency on Burma / Myanmar, which responded positively to tangible signs of the country's progress and its commitment in favour of poverty alleviation and of the promotion of democratization.

"This is an important step for Europe in reaffirming its solidarity to the people and the democratization process of Burma / Myanmar .  Needless to say, the European People's Party is completely aligned with the declaration of the Luxembourg Presidency," Martens declared.
