Aims & Objectives
Who we are:
The Members of Parliament Union (MPU) is the political organization constituted by the exiled Burmese MPs-elect. Members are from the National League for Democracy (NLD) and the ethnic-based political parties as well as the independent MPs. Following the formation of the MPU on 15 May 1996 on the Thai-Burma border, the MPU was formalized at the MP Conference held in Dublin, Ireland on 4 October 2000. The third Congress of MPU was held from 21 to 24 March 2004 in Washington, DC.
We are committed to striving for promotion of democracy and human rights, convening of the People’s Parliament and emergence of a democratic federal union of Burma.
How we work:
In accordance with the Constitution of MPU, the members who are attending the conference elect the Standing Committee (President, Vice-President, Secretary and members) by secret ballot. The President is the most responsible person of the MPU to play the leading role in implementing the program of MPU. The Congress also democratically elected the Prime Minister of NCGUB and the elected Prime Minister selected the members of the Cabinet. [Top]
