HUMAN RIGHTS YEARBOOK

* Video premiere screening of “Season of Fear” produced by Burma Issues, in association with Witness
Human Rights Violations in Burma continued to worsen in 2005 as a result of the oppressive policies and practices of the State Peace and Development Council. An estimated one million internally displaced persons in Burma have been forced to flee from their homes due to gross human rights violations and ongoing armed conflict.

SPEAKERS:
- U Bo Hla Tint, MP-elect Washington DC-based of the National League for Democracy (NLD) and member of the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB), will outline the situation of human rights and key policy issues.
- Saw Kweh Say of Burma Issues will introduce the newly produced video, “Season of Fear,” and address issues related to internally displaced persons in eastern Burma .
- H.E. Asda Jayanama, former UN Ambassador for Thailand , will analyze Burma 's human rights situation in a regional and global context.
THE HUMAN RIGHTS YEARBOOK , produced by the Human Rights Documentation Unit (HRDU) of the NCGUB, is an annual comprehensive review of the situation of human rights in Burma . The report catalogues human rights abuses such as forced labor, extra-judicial killing, arbitrary arrest, forced relocation and the rights of women and children.
SEASON OF FEAR provides insight into the daily struggle of half a million displaced persons in eastern Burma . Filmed clandestinely inside Burma , the video documents the experiences of villagers driven from their homes by the 2005-6 SPDC-led dry season offensives.
