Burma party seeks support
Sept 17 (The Himalya Times) - Dr Tint Swe, a leader of the National League for Democracy and Burmese Minister in Exile, said at a political programme organised in the capital on Saturday that he had come here "seeking support and solidarity of the Nepal government and the Nepali people for the restoration of democracy in military-run Myanmar".
"Some months ago, Nepal was in the headlines. We were overwhelmed when we read in the media about the uprising of the people against the autocratic regime."
The minister, who has been living in India for over a decade, said he had met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and plans to meet other political leaders.
The military regime has been ruling the country for over a decade. Ministers of the elected government, including NLD leader Ang Sang Sukie, have either been living in exile or imprisoned.
