Burma to discuss Thai plan on Suu Kyi crisis

August 1 (ABC) - Burma's foreign minister, Win Aung, says he is ready to discuss Thai proposals to resolve an impasse over the detention of pro-democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.

Win Aung, who is in the Thai capital, Bangkok, for a meeting of regional foreign ministers, will also hold bilateral talks with his Thai counterpart, Surakiart Sathirathai.

Asked if the release of Ms Suu Kyi will be on the two ministers' agenda, Win Aung said everything would be discussed.

International pressure is mounting on Burma's military junta over its treatment of Ms Suu Kyi, who has been detained since violent clashes broke out between her supports and pro-government groups on May 30.

The United States' president, George W Bush, on Monday signed a bill closing the US market to imports from Burma.
