Bush Calls for Release of Burma's Pro-Democracy Leader

2 Mar (VOA)- President Bush has condemned human rights violations in Burma and called for the release of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest.

Mr. Bush told reporters in New Delhi today-Thursday the state of human rights under Burma's military regime is deplorable.

Mr. Bush said he and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh agree that all nations should seek the release of Aung San Suu Kyi.

Aung San Suu Kyi has either been in jail or under house arrest for more than 10 of the past 16 years. Her house arrest was extended by six months last December.
