New Earthquakes Rattle Indonesia, Burma
30 Dec 2004 (VOA) - Indonesia and Burma have been rattled by a series of earthquakes, but it does not appear the tremors were strong enough to create a new tsunami.
Indonesian officials say at least one earthquake was reported early Thursday near Sumatra island. There were no reports of casualties or damage.
Seismologists in Thailand say they recorded two earthquakes in neighboring Burma. The tremors measured 5.4 and 5.6 on the Richter scale. The Associated Press reports the tremors could be felt in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai.
More than 70 aftershocks have struck southern Asia since Sunday's devastating earthquake and tsunami. [Information for this report is provided by AP and AFP.]
