ILO To Discuss Forced Labor in Burma
Jun 1 (VOA) - The International Labor Organization opened its annual conference in Geneva Tuesday, with Burma high on the list of items to discuss.
The UN labor organization has said state-imposed forced labor in Burma is one of its top concerns and warned the military-ruled nation that it may call for the 178 ILO members to impose sanctions on Burma if its record does not improve.
Earlier this year, a high-level ILO team cut short its visit to Burma because it was denied permission to see a top government official to discuss the forced-labor issue.
Some 4,000 delegates are attending the ILO conference, which will also include discussions of global trends in working hours, occupational safety and health, and work for young people. [Information for this report is provided by AP.] [Source]
