NCUB meeting ends on Thai-Burma border
8 May 2004 (DVB) - The six day long assembly of exiled National Coalition of the Union of Burma (NCUB) has ended on 8 May at a Karen National Union (KNU) base on the Thai-Burma border.
At the assembly, General Tamlabaw of KNU was elected the new chairman of the NCUB to replace the ailing General Saw Bo Mya who is currently receiving medical treatment in Bangkok. Similarly, the organisation’s secretary Ko Aung Moe Zaw was replaced by U Maung Maung but other positions remain unchanged.
A spokesman from NCUB said that the organisation would not accept the National Convention to be organised by Burma’s junta, State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) because it is a fake convention which doesn’t represent the real desire of the people of Burma.
The organisation insists that the junta should hold a tripartite talk with ethnic national groups and the NLD, and to substantiate a people’s parliament based on the results of May 1990 general election.
