NLD holding meetings in Burma’s capital

24 August 2004 (DVB) - The National League for Democracy (NLD) divisional and state organising committees, elected representatives and central executive committee (CEC) members are holding five day long meetings starting 25 August at its HQs in Rangoon.

Because of difficulties with the location, meetings are to be held in groups on separate days as follow:
25-8-2004 - Magwe and Irrawaddy Division
26-8-2004 - Sagaing and Pegu Division
27-8-2004 - Mandalay and Rangoon Division
28-8-2004 - Kachin, Chin, Karen, Arakan and Shan States
29-8-2004 - Tenasserim Division and Mon State

Women, youth and CEC members will start a meeting on the evening of 29 August.

NLD spokesman U Lwin told DVB that members are planning to discuss the prevailing situation in Burma including the signature collecting campaign and future projects.

He added that the campaign is still going strong despite harassments and intimidations. He expressed his frustration at the lack of response from the military authorities for the national reconciliation.

U Lwin insisted that if the SPDC really cares for the country, the problems of Burma could be solved among the people of Burma without the help of Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), nor the Prime Minister of Thailand Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, nor UN General Secretary Kofi Annan.

He also said that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is in good health and that he is having regular correspondence with her. [Source]
