NLD won’t be invited to convention, hinted Burma junta

Feb 1, 2005 (DVB) - Brig-Gen Kyaw San, the Information minister of Burma’s military junta, State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) insisted at the news conference held in Rangoon today that the junta will do all it could to make the “National Convention” a success and hinted that three main opposition parties including National League for Democracy (NLD) led by Nobel laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi won’t be invited.

NLD spokesman U Lwin told DVB that the party knows that it would not be re-invited as it refused to attend the convention in the first place. “We have to wait and see what will happen and they are likely to carry on with their roadmap plan with six objectives,” said U Lwin”.

U Lwin also added that the party is carrying on with its usual activities while preparing itself as much as it could for the likely event of severe crackdown on the party by the junta.
