UN envoy supports Burma 'Road Map'

August 12 (ABC) - The United Nations' envoy to Burma, Razali Ismail, has urged China to take a bigger role in resolving the crisis over detained democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.

Thailand is seeking support from Asian and Western nations to meet with Burma's military leaders to map a democratic transition.

Beijing has said the matter is an internal affair.

Mr Razali says he will take to Burma's leaders a proposal for a regional forum, which could include countries such as China and Australia.

The envoy has met with Thailand's foreign minister, Surakiart Sathirthai, to discuss the plan, and both say China could play an important role in the process.

Ms Suu Kyi has been detained by Burma's ruling military since May 30, when violent clashes broke out between her supporters and pro-government groups.
