Indonesian President Plans a Trip to Burma in February

19 Jan (VOA) – Indonesian officials say President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is planning to visit Burma in the near future. An Indonesian foreign ministry official Yuri Thamrin says the president's trip may take place in February, but it has not yet been confirmed.

The trip would be the first to Burma by a regional leader since the Association of Southeast Asian Nations' call in December for the country to release political prisoners and speed up democratic reforms.

In January, UN special envoy to Burma Razali Ismail quit his job because the country's rulers had not let him visit since March 2004.

Burmese officials also stopped a planned trip by Malaysia's foreign minister last month.
