Burmese authorities harass to handover the list of signatures

3 August 2004 (DVB) - The local authorities of State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) at Monywa, Sagaing Division in central Burma are demanding members of National League for Democracy (NLD) to handover the list of signatures of those who are calling for the release of all political prisoners including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and U Tin Oo, and the reopening of all NLD office throughout Burma.

The petition campaign has been spearheaded by local NLD leaders including Daw Khin Than, an organising committee member, and she was ‘visited’ by the local election commission elders on 2 August and they demanded her to handover the list.

It is not known exactly why the list was demanded by the authorities.

According to local residents, the authorities are closely watching the movements and activities of Daw Khin Than and interrogating the residents of the houses she visited.
