Strategic consultation between Members of Parliament Union, the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma, the National Council of the Union of Burma, the Women's League of Burma, and the Student and Youth Congress of Burma

Upon completion of strategic consultations between the elected MPs of the 1990 election, the ethnic leaders, Youth, Women, Trade Unions and the other organizations working for democracy in Burma gathered at the ILO Training Center in Turin from the 10th to 15 July 2006, the following resolutions are agreed upon by all the organizations in attendance. We appeal to the international community and international organizations to do the following:

- All members of the UN Security Council strengthen the mandate given to the UN Secretary-General by the UN General Assembly to find a peaceful resolution to the political stalemate in Burma.

- All member states of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) - which is scheduled to discuss the issue of forced labor in Burma in July 2006 as per a specific request by the 95th Session of the ILO Conference- seize this opportunity to examine the issue in depth and recommend whatever further action is available to the ECOSOC to bring about an effective remedy to the Burma crisis:

- The European Union make every effort necessary to ensure the delivery of health assistance is transparent, accountable and thoroughly monitored to ensure it reached the most needy people of Burma and is not siphoned off, diverted or steered to the Burmese military regime or its affiliated organizations.

- The International Labor Organization (ILO) requests an Advisory Opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the Burma regime's violations with regard to the Forced Labor convention. Doing so will provide the governments of the world a clearer picture of the extent and scope of the violations and provide the UNSC with a legal opinion upon which a remedy can be constructed.

The conference also unanimously agreed that in order to strengthen the activities of the various organizations working on political issues relating to democratization in Burma, the conference also agreed to establish an office in Europe.
