Coordinator's Guide to the Thank you for being willing to serve as a coordinator for the campaign to secure the signatures of as many members of your national parliament as possible on the Declaration of Solidarity with the Democratically Elected Members of Parliament of Burma. You are an important part of an international effort to stand up for the only democratically elected parliamentarians in the world who have been denied the basic right to take their oath of office. They, and the citizens of Burma who elected them, appreciate your support. As coordinator, your job is three-fold: 1. Make certain that every member of your national parliament has the opportunity to sign the Declaration; 2. Provide each member with the information that they need to understand and consider joining the thousands of MPs around the world who are signing the Declaration; and 3. Collect and send to the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma the signed Declarations. You should have a package of information that will help you do your job. It contains the Declaration as well as two personal letters from the Prime Minister-in-exile of Burma, Dr. Sein Win: one for the each member of parliament; and one for each supporter of this campaign. It also contains materials that tell the tragic story of Burma, the record of abuse at the hands of the ruling military junta and their theft of a national democratic election. Finally, it describes the many resolutions of condemnation of the military rulers of Burma that have been overwhelmingly approved by international bodies such as the United Nations General Assembly, the UN Human Rights Commission, the International Labor Organization and the Inter-Parliamentarian Union. There are many people who will be there to help you. There are members of your parliament who will strongly support standing up for their persecuted colleagues in Burma. Ask them for help. There are also political party leaders, NGOs and concerned individuals in your country who could be very helpful in approaching MPs. Identify whom these individuals and groups are and ask for their help. You might want to organize a meeting where the names of the members of your parliament are divided among those who are willing to help. Then, keep track of which members of parliament are actually approached. While there may be some members of parliament who will not sign the Declaration, please be certain that every MP is given the opportunity. When every member of your parliament has been approached, please fill out the enclosed form and send it to the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma. The people of Burma thank you for your support.
